This organisation has a network of self-help groups throughout the UK run by sufferers from depression and their carers. As well as providing support, Depression Alliance seeks to educate the public and encourage research in an effort to reduce the debilitating effects of this misunderstood illness.

Breathing Space: Helpline Counselling Service: 0800 83 85 87 (6pm to 2am). This telephone number can also be used during normal office hours for general enquiries.
Only available for those telephoning from Scotland and primarily aimed at men (12-40) who feel depressed and suicidal. The service offers free access, by telephone, to trained counsellors offering advice and help.

Aware Defeat Depression is a voluntary organisation whose aim is to assist the section of the Northern Ireland population whose lives are directly affected by depression. MDF -The Bipolar Organisation is a user led charity working to enable people affected by Bipolar disorder/manic depression to take control of their lives. They organise self-help groups, run self-management training courses, and provide information and advice on issues relating to Bipolar Affective Disorder (manic depression).www.mdf.org.uk

·Hours of opening are Monday to Thursday 9.30am to 7.00pm and Friday 9.30 to 5.30. The Brent Centre for Young People (run by The Brent Adolescent Centre) provides a free comprehensive service for young people offering Mental Health, Drugs and Alcohol, Sexual Health and Connections Personal Advisor Services.
The Centre also has an established outreach Mental Health in Schools Project in five Brent secondary schools and provides specialist support to staff at the Brent Pupil Referral Unit.
Referrals to the Centre are from GPs, schools and other organisations in Brent. Young people can refer themselves.
