In mid 2003, following several attempts to formulate an initiative to raise awareness of depression in schools, the Trustees agreed a pilot project based on secondary schools in West Berkshire making use of the expertise of Peter Wilson the recently retired Founder/Director of Young Minds.
The report on the pilot project was published in December 2004.

West Berkshire Council are keen to continue with this initiative and have arranged a workshop for 11th May 2005 which will include Peter Wilson, a representative from the South East Development Centre of NIMHE and the Project Director of CWMT, as well as representatives from West Berkshire Council and LEA.

(June, 2005)
The first meeting of a Working Group convened by West Berkshire Council was held on 11th May 2005. Peter Wilson and the Project Director were included. At the second meeting on 17th June 2005 Peter Wilson was commissioned to draft a Train the Trainer package based on the content of his booklet “Young Minds in Our Schools”. This initiative will be linked with Every Child Matters, the National Healthy Schools Standard and, it is hoped the National Early Intervention Psychosis initiative in so far as it involves school staff. The cost of producing training materials and a number of Train the Trainer courses will be borne by the Trust.

(January, 2006)
Peter Wilson has drafted a package for training the trainers lasting 2 days with a month's separation between each. This programme is being considered by the Steering Group.

(June, 2006)
It is proving difficult to agree a training package. The extension of the original pilot is unlikely to proceed.

(February, 2007)
It is disappointing to report that this project is no longer active as it as been proved impractical to negotiate a way ahead.  Experience of this pilot will influence the drawing-up of a new Schools Policy to be pursued by CWMT.
There will be no further updates.
