B4 Campaign (Berkshire for Mental Health)

In July 2002, The Charlie Waller Memorial Trust decided to support the B4 Campaign in conjunction with the Berkshire Healthcare Trust and the Primary Care Trusts serving Bracknell, Reading, Slough, West Berkshire, Windsor, Maidenhead and Wokingham. The B4 Campaign was launched on 10th October 2002 to coincide with World Mental Health Day.
Initially the services provided by the B4 Campaign were free and were intended to provide employers with: -

  • An audit of existing policy and practice covering mental health in the workplace.
  • Advice on best policy, practice and implementation.
  • Training for the Human Resources and Occupational Health Managers.
  • A training pack to enable Human Resources to cascade the training.
  • One - to - one support for managers of people experiencing mental health difficulties.
  • One - to - one support for employees experiencing mental health difficulties.
  • Follow-up audit to monitor progress.

The B4 Campaign is managed by RESOURCE in the West of Berkshire and East Berkshire MIND in the East of the county with more recent involvement of the Wokingham Community Resource Centre and Advance Working.
In January 2004, the B4 Campaign was awarded the Pavilions Innovation in Training Award.
More information on the B4 campaign:

(June, 2005)
Resource and East Berkshire MIND are contacting organisations and firms which have participated in the B4 Campaign to identify examples of best practice.
So far the following feedback has been received:

Comments from an individual who received support | Reactions from attendees of Mental Health Awareness Training run by East Berkshire Mind

(June, 2006)
The search for feedback and best practice continues. Funding in both the East and West of Berkshire has now been secured to March 2008 following a period of uncertainty.

(February, 2007)
Unfortunately we are not receiving feedback from within Berkshire.  Details of this project will remain on the site but will not be updated unless we receive useful information.
